Blackspace decided to adjust launching dates of its projects on Kabaena and Kalimantan

March 12, 2018 Blackspace decided to adjust launching dates of its projects on Kabaena and Kalimantan

Nickel - Kabaena

Blackspace management updates launching dates and reaching the project capacity of the ferronickel smelting plant.

The first two lines of the plant (capacity of each is 5,000 tons in nickel equivalent per year) were constructed as expected in 2017. However, their test launch showed up a number of engineering shortfalls caused by the contractor company, which was responsible for their installation and launch. For a long period of time the contractor has failed to eliminate the identified shortfalls, so Blackspace took the launch of these two lines under its control. Problem – solving work is in full swing, it’s expected that the first two lines of the plant will be commissioned in the mid-2018. Construction of the other 8 lines was suspended untill the launch of the first two ones and will resume in the meantime.

Also, Blackspace management changed the management team responsible for construction of the ferronickel smelting plant. Detailed study of the situation on Kabaena showed that former team made many significant mistakes.

The company negotiates with a EPC – contractor JC Global Minerals about claim settlement.

Coal - Kalimantan

Blackspace management decided to temporarily suspend the construction of the railroad on the Kalimantan island until the necessary permissions will be obtained.

The railroad is to connect the coal deposit (development license belongs to Blackspace) with seaports.

At present, contract with contractor PT SGMT is terminated.

Obtaining a license in the Indonesian Ministry of Transport, which authorizes construction of the railroad on some areas (for example, in the woodland) is under way. In the nearest future after obtaining the license the company will resume the railroad construction.
